Celebrating Environmental Day with Hume Cement Date: 5th June 2022 In celebration of Environmental Day on 5th June 2022, Hume Cement (HCIB) had the privilege of inviting Puan Nazatul Aini Binti Hairoman, Assistant Director of Solid Waste 2 from Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya, to deliver an insightful talk on recycling. Alongside this, HCIB organized a series of activities to commemorate this special day and further engage employees in environmental efforts. Kickstarting the Day with Awareness and Fun The day began with an informative ‘Toolbox Talk’, where employees gathered for a safety briefing. This was followed by an engaging Environmental Quiz, where participants competed for a chance to win exciting gifts and hampers on the spot! Tree Planting for a Greener Future Following the quiz, employees rolled up their sleeves for a tree-planting session in the quarry and plant area. With teamwork and enthusiasm, colleagues from all levels came together to plant a variety of fruit trees, including mango, rambutan, and star fruit. The smiles and laughter echoed around as everyone thoroughly enjoyed the activity. This initiative aligns with the Malaysian Government’s 100 Million Tree-Planting Campaign (2020-2025), launched as part of the Greening Malaysia Programme, which aims to foster a greener future for the nation. Community Engagement through Gotong-Royong The excitement didn’t end there! Employees continued the day with a ‘Gotong-Royong’ (community clean-up) session around Lakeview Kampar. A dedicated group of 22 employees worked together to clean the park, picking up rubbish and ensuring the area remains beautiful and enjoyable for the local community. A Joyful Shopping Experience The children’s faces lit up with excitement as they selected and tried on new clothes and shoes in preparation for the upcoming Hari Raya celebrations. DOE Perak Officers and Students Visit a Date: 23rd March 2022 On 23rd March 2022, Hume Cement’s Gopeng Plant had the special privilege of hosting a study tour organized for the Department of Environment (DOE) Perak officers and their current batch of industrial-training students. A Guided Tour of the Gopeng Plant During the visit, the DOE entourage was given an insightful tour of the Control Room. Our team briefed them on the types of equipment installed within the plant to effectively control air emissions, showcasing our commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable practices. A Focus on Air Emissions Control The participants were provided with a detailed understanding of how our advanced systems operate to monitor and minimize air pollution, aligning with our ongoing efforts to maintain a clean and safe environment. This event was not only a celebration of the strong and wonderful women in our lives but also a moment to highlight the uniqueness of every individual. A Fun and Creative Experience With strict adherence to Covid-19 SOPs and guidelines, employees from all levels and functions had a great time choosing their favorite scents — lemongrass, lavender, peppermint, and eucalyptus — to create a personalized bottle of hand sanitizer. It was a fun-filled experience that allowed everyone to be creative while ensuring safety. ‘Back to School’ Gifting Initiative Date: 2th January 2022 In line with Hume Cement’s 2022 CSR Plan, representatives from the Gopeng Plant spread joy and support to the local community by presenting ‘Back to School’ gift packs to approximately 20 Tabika Kemas pupils in Kota Bharu, Perak.
